**Doing Our Best to Keep It Green (Even Behind the Scenes!) 🌍💚**
At ItsADeal.ca, we’ve always believed that secondhand shopping isn’t just about great deals—it’s about doing right by the planet. Our mission has always been *less to the landfill*… and that philosophy doesn’t stop with the clothing and accessories you see on the site.
Over the years, we've received a few customer questions and comments about our packaging—so we thought it was time to share a little more about what goes on behind the scenes.
🧦 **Let’s talk boxes.**
Buying new shipping boxes is expensive and, honestly, wasteful. Instead, we do our best to source clean, sturdy boxes that have no other company markings. These boxes are *not brand new*, and that’s the point. Giving these boxes another life helps reduce waste—and it aligns with everything we stand for.
🎁 **What about tissue and packing materials?**
The tissue paper we use to wrap your order is donated to us. If we run out, we sometimes use packing paper if it's available. And if you happen to receive bubble wrap or plastic padding in your parcel? Yep, that was donated too. It’s not something we purchase—it’s something we rescue before it ends up in the trash. Every piece gets a second chance.
📏 **Measuring tapes in first orders**
With your first order, you’ll receive a free measuring tape. Yes, it’s plastic—and yes, we’re aware. But it’s something we genuinely believe our thrifting community will use, not toss. The small bag the tape comes in? Donated. We were gifted boxes of them that will last us a while. Again, it’s about reusing what already exists.
🌎 **Why we don’t accept clothing by mail**
We often get kind offers from customers asking if they can send boxes of clothing for us to sell. We love the support, but for a few reasons, we don’t go that route. Shipping boxes back and forth increases our environmental footprint, and we're usually full to the brim with local donations and estate sale finds. For now, we’re keeping things local and low-impact.
We just want you to know—we see you, we hear you, and we truly care. If you’ve ever wondered why your order arrived in a plain brown box or packed with mismatched materials, this is why. We’re trying to walk the walk—not just talk the talk—when it comes to sustainability.
